Hurricane Paulette Preparedness

11 September 2020

Tropical Storm Paulette is due to strengthen over the coming days into a Category 2 hurricane. With the impending arrival of the storm, the City of Hamilton advises those City restaurants and businesses that currently use the wheelie bins provided by the City, that all bins must be secured inside buildings or storage areas immediately after the last refuse collection before the storm’s anticipated arrival.

City Engineer, Patrick Cooper, stated, “At this time, the City’s last refuse collection before Paulette’s arrival is scheduled for Sunday evening. Due to unpredictability, last refuse collection could change.  Once emptied, ALL bins must be taken off the City sidewalks and secured inside for safety reasons. Refuse collection will only resume once the storm has passed and it is deemed safe to do so by the EMO authorities. Nothing must be left on any sidewalk or in any street that could possibly become a projectile during gale or hurricane force winds.”

City businesses are encouraged to check the City’s social media platforms on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for any updates to the refuse schedule and potential City office closure.

Through the weekend, City crews will be prepping Hamilton for the storm; trimming trees, removing street furniture, banners, flags and planters, and ensuring that all City storm drains are clear.

With Paulette estimated to be a lengthy storm, the City reminds businesses to properly secure their properties to ensure the least possible amount of damage.
