Hamilton – February 8th, 2021

The City of Hamilton can advise that shortly before 7am this morning an oil spill incident was discovered in the City.

The spill affected Church Street, Par-La-Ville Street, Dundonald Street and Cedar Avenue as well as Court Street and King Street; all roads remain open.

City of Hamilton crews are currently cleaning the spill but are advising caution when accessing those areas. We estimate to have the spill contained within the next 30 minutes.

The crews are using Sphag Sorb to contain the spill; Sphag Sorb is a natural organic absorbent that is used to clean up oil, gas, diesel fuel, solvents, paints, glycol and organic chemical spills.

The cause of the spill is under investigation.
