The City of Hamilton is pleased to sponsor an exciting open-air shopping event taking place this Sunday, July 25 from 1pm until 6pm on Court Street (between Elliott Street and Victoria Street).

Court Street Market will feature a host of vendors selling a variety of items including clothes, shoes, candles, handbags, jewelry, homemade cookies, crafts, workout gear, beauty products and much more!

DJ Magnum will be on hand to provide musical entertainment and fun vibes while shoppers browse goods from more than 35 local vendors. Local eateries which typically close on Sundays will open for the event.

As part of their sponsorship support, the City has waived the rental fees for the closure of Court Street for the day and have also waived the associated vendor permit fees – totaling more than $3,500.

Court Street will be pedestrianized for the event and will be closed between Victoria Street and Elliott Street from 10am until 8pm. BEDC and City of Hamilton are co-sponsoring the event.

Every $25 purchase at the event entitles shoppers to be entered into a raffle to win prizes including a 65-inch Smart TV, a wicker patio set, beauty makeovers, a wireless printer, and gift certificates. The draw will take place that afternoon and all prizes have been donated by local area merchants.

Shoppers also have the opportunity to vote for their favorite vendor of the day – based on set criteria including customer service and knowledge of goods. The vendor with the highest score will win $250.

One of the event organizers and local Court Street merchant Gary Augustus of Soul Food Grill & Café said: “This event was the idea of several Court Street merchants; we all got together and wanted to create an event which would be something different for Court Street and a way to increase foot traffic in the area. Although most of the vendors are from the Court Street area, many are also new entrepreneurs from other parts of the community.”

Mr. Augustus said the Court Street area merchants plan to hold another similar event in a few months.
