City Announces Christmas Window Decorating Contest Winners

Hamilton – December 16th, 2022

The City of Hamilton today announced the winners of the City’s 2022 Christmas Window Decorating Contest.

A record 24 City businesses entered the festive competition this year, which had two judging categories:

  • Best Christmas Window 2022 (selected by a panel of industry-relevant judges)
  • People’s Choice (selected by the general public through a City-hosted voting process)

The winner for BOTH categories was The Bermuda National Library.

Close to 1,500 members of the public cast their vote for the People’s Choice category. While The Bermuda National Library was the overall winner, Discovery Wines & Spirits was close behind as the 1st Runner Up and DEMCO was the 2nd Runner Up.

1st Runner Up for Best Overall Window was DEMCO, 2nd Runner Up was Waterfront Man.

“I’m very pleased to announce that the winner of this year’s BELCO Best Christmas Window is the Bermuda National Library and the winner of the People’s Choice award happens to be the same organization, so congratulations. The Library is a tremendous resource for all Bermudians.”

Mayor Gosling presented the winning BELCO voucher for $1000 and a $500 voucher for Master’s, to Head Librarian, Joanne Brangman. He added. “This was a record year for entries with no less than 24 businesses participating.

Ms. Brangman said of the win, “This is our first year participating and was the brainchild of the Library staff, Ms. Lisa Martin and Ms. Nikki Bowers.” Ms. Bowers explained that the window represented the magic of books with some Christmas sparkle, “Everything is intentional, mostly handmade. We are book lovers and wanted a way to connect with our community during the holidays.”

The Library’s chosen charity to receive a donation of $1500 is The Friends of The Bermuda National Library.

This year’s judges included: Councillor John Harvey, MBE; Selange Gitchner, Jasmine Lee, Avarie Graham and Mr. Fotogenik, a.k.a. Shawn Simmons.

The City extends its thanks to the participating businesses, the judging panel and to all members of the public who took the time to cast their votes.
