Stakeholder Information

The City of Hamilton's budget is defined by its revenue streams. One of those streams is the collection of City taxes. All assessment units in the City are taxed a percentage of City tax based on the ARV as determined by Government. The tax structure can be explored in the link below. The monies collected from City taxes contribute to the overall operating budget and provide a portion of the capital for maintaining the City's infrastructure - sidewalks, streets, parks, buildings, street and traffic lighting and sewerage.

The City's finances are audited every year by an outside organization to ensure that the City is operating with best practice and with transparency. Audited financials are posted annually in the public realm. The City operates under Financial Instructions as directed and implemented by the Government.

The City is governed by Acts and Ordinances. Acts are legislated by Parliament and Ordinances are legislated by the Attorney General's chambers.
