City to Host Drive-in Movie Series over Easter Weekend

Hamilton – February 26, 2021

The City of Hamilton is delighted to announce its next Fresh Air Films event which will take place over the 2021 Easter Weekend.

The City, in partnership with title sponsor HSBC, will host a drive-in edition of its iconic film series over three nights, from April 1st to 3rd, on the top level of Bull’s Head Car Park.

Movie goers can expect free popcorn upon entry, raffle prizes throughout the night as well as a drive-thru photo booth.

Thursday, April 1st will feature Lego Movie 2: The Second Part at 6:30pm and John Wick Chapter 3: Parabellum at 9:00pm. Friday, April 2nd will feature Croods: A New Age at 6:30pm and Bad Boys for Life at 9:00pm while Saturday, April 3rd, will feature Onward at 6:30pm and Jumanji: Next Level at 9:00pm. Gates will open one hour before the first screening on each night.

“The City really wanted to put on something special for island residents during the Easter weekend,” explained Senior Events and Marketing Coordinator, Allison Tucker. “The past few months have seen us robbed of so much joy and entertainment due to COVID-19, including our own pre-Christmas Drive-In Holiday Pajama Jam, so we wanted to do something which people could really look forward to and know that it was safe.”

Entry into the event each night is with a receipt from any City of Hamilton business for purchases of at least $25.00 made between March 1 and April 3, 2021. Receipts from the City’s previously scheduled Christmas movie series will also be accepted.

“The same model for entry was engaged at the City’s official Taste of Bermuda event in October which generated a stimulus of $40,000.00 for the City’s eateries,” explained Ms Tucker. “We thought this would be a great way for people to support their favourite City businesses.”

Those attending are asked to write their name, phone number and email on the back of their receipt before arriving at the car park to avoid congestion. Receipts will be entered into a draw for great prizes and will serve as reference for contact tracing purposes, if necessary.

Food and beverage will be available for purchase on-site throughout the weekend from vendors including Ashely’s Lemonade, Speciality Cinema & Grill and Four Star Pizza.

“HSBC is extremely excited to be a part of this event,” said Tanya Bule, Head of Wealth and Personal Banking & Marketing. “We hope that as many people as possible will come out and enjoy what is going to be an incredibly exciting event. Not only will it provide a safer way for all of us to celebrate the Easter weekend, but it also will give much needed support to Hamilton’s retailers and other establishments after an extremely tough year.”

Permission for the event has been sought from the Bermuda Government.

Attendees are asked to adhere to the recommended health and safety protocols. Additionally, attendees are reminded that they must watch the movies in a car; there will be no seating area available.
