City Congratulates Town Crier on Recent Overseas Competition

Hamilton – August 4th, 2022

The City of Hamilton congratulates Town Crier Ed Christopher on his recent success in an overseas Town Crier Competition.

Part of Ed Christopher's role as Town Crier of the City of Hamilton is to represent Bermuda and the City of Hamilton by participating in Town Crier Competitions all over the world. In his most recent competition in England that saw competitors from across Great Britain, Ed has come out on top amongst his peers.

Ed Christopher earned five awards in the competition, Best Dressed Town Crier in Plymouth, third place in the Plymouth Cries Competition, the Ambassador Trophy in Kingsbridge, was named the overall first place winner of the Kingsbridge Competition and runner-up in the Amada Cup Competition.

“Being Town Crier for the City of Hamilton is something I love to do and have for the last almost 30 years. The position has allowed me to travel, compete and meet a lot of people from all over, many of whom I have now been friends with for over a decade,” says Ed Christopher.

“This competition is the first one I’ve attended in a few years and it felt good to be back on the stage and be able to bring home some awards in the process.”

The City of Hamilton is pleased to support Ed in attending these competitions as he is the face of the City and exemplifies the spirit of Bermuda.

Jessica Astwood, Director of Marketing and Communications says, “Ed is no stranger to the podium at these competitions, in the last few years he has also been named the International Town Crier Champion of 2018 and was then named the Dartmouth Town Crier Champion for 2018 and 2019 right before the pandemic put a brief hold on international crier competitions.”

“We are so proud of Ed and happy to have him at the City of Hamilton not only as our Town Crier but as one of Bermuda’s greatest ambassadors. We know that when he travels overseas donning his pink shirt and blue vest in these competitions, he is representing Hamilton and the best of Bermuda.”

The City of Hamilton encourages anyone who would like to see Ed in action locally to sign up for his free Discover Hamilton walking tours which run from April to December, Monday to Friday, leaving from City Hall at 10:30 am and are top-rated on Trip Advisor.
