Scaffolding in Place in City Hall Foyer

Hamilton – January 22nd, 2024

The City of Hamilton is advising members of the public that there is currently scaffolding in place in the City Hall foyer while investigative infrastructure works are taking place, to ensure the safety of City Hall staff and visitors.

Preliminary structural investigations at City Hall have identified potential vulnerabilities with the City Hall foyer ceiling. This issue is primarily due to the age of the building; it’s an old lath and plaster ceiling which is showing signs of deterioration.

It should be noted that this issue does not affect City Hall Offices or the above art galleries; the concerns are for the lobby ceiling only, not any other areas.  The public is advised that City Hall Offices remain open, as do the art galleries which will be operating as normal. Safe access to all three locations is indicated by the erected signage which is in place to guide visitors and staff safely around the effected areas.

Further updates will be issued once additional exploratory works are completed.
